10105 COMMUNITY SERVICE
CREDIT: ENRICHMENT, GR 9-12, ELECTIVE

Permission Required: Signature, Director of Community Service.
The Community Service course is designed to give students an awareness of needs in the broader Dayton community and an experience of meeting those needs in a directed setting. Students volunteer in the community on their own time. In monthly seminars, students will be asked to reflect upon their Christian and civic call to service through journal work, classroom discussion and interaction with the community leaders in the service field. This is an enrichment course and therefore does not count toward fulfilling the school's graduation requirements. Hours of service and credit for this course are posted on the student's transcript.

10106 BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS
NONCREDIT, 1 YR, GR 11-12, ELECTIVE, Fee: $30.00
Prerequisites: All eligibility requirements for extracurricular and co-curricular activities apply to participation in this program. Required: Signature, Director of Community Service; Application and Interview with Big Brothers/Big Sisters: Dayton chapter; Acceptance by Big Brothers/Big Sisters: Dayton chapter.

Students are paired with a student at a designated elementary school. Once a week (during period 11) students visit with their Little Brother or Sister at the elementary school, serving as a role model/mentor for younger children (Therefore, students must have a period 11 study hall). As a group, Chaminade-Julienne Big Brothers/Big Sisters students are responsible for planning activities for the "Littles." In addition to the weekly time with the elementary students, one day a month is scheduled for planning activities with the Director of Community Service and one day a month is scheduled for supervision with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Caseworker. For program documentation, students are asked to keep journals of their experience. Participation in this unique program is noted on a student's transcript.

Enrollment is limited. Students must complete an application in the Spring of the sophomore or junior year. Interviews with Big Brothers/Big Sisters will take place during the fourth quarter. Students will be notified of their acceptance by Big Brothers/Big Sisters by the end of the application year. Please note: scheduling conflicts may not allow some students who are accepted by Big Brothers/Big Sisters to participate in the program.

The program itself will last from the first week of September until the first week of May. The month of September will devoted to training and orientation for the Chaminade-Julienne Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Chaminade-Julienne students will begin on site visits with elementary students in October.

I've read about link exchanges a lot recently. I've seen a lot of people who say that their predictions that link exchange would stop working saying that they were right, and that they don't work, and that they in fact hurt your website. Let's stop right there. Proclaiming the death of link exchanges is still a little premature.
