Chaminade-Julienne:
A National School of Excellence
Chaminade-Julienne
Catholic High School is recognized by the United States Department
of Education as a National School of Excellence. Along with its
over 24,000 alumni, C-J celebrates over 116 years of educating Daytons
young people at the historic corner of Franklin and Ludlow Streets
in downtown Dayton. Owned and operated by the Society of Mary (Marianists)
and the Sisters
of Notre Dame de Namur, C-J seeks to educate the whole person--spiritually,
intellectually, socially, athletically, artistically--in a value-centered
environment.
C-J has been accredited by the North Central Association since 1938.
Our school is chartered by the State of Ohio, and is a member of
the National Catholic Education Association, the Marianist Educational
Consortium, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
The Students
Chaminade-Julienne
students are achievers, goal-setters, and community-minded individuals.
The vast majority of C-J students (over 97%) go on to attend colleges
and universities across the country, and 50% of last year's class
earned grants and scholarships which totaled well over $4.7 million.
C-J's well-rounded students consistently put forth tremendous effort
to achieve great things not only in academics, but also in service
to the community, athletics, the performing arts, and much more: C-J
students are well-prepared for the future.
We are proud of our cosmopolitan composition: approximately 72%
Caucasian, 25% African-American, and 3% Asian and Hispanic. The
diversity of C-J's student body is one of the top reasons families
cite when asked why they chose Chaminade-Julienne. C-J's central
location enables us to draw students from all over the Miami Valley,
students who come from different socio-economic backgrounds as well
as different ethnic backgrounds. The various backgrounds of our
students closely model the "real world" and contribute to the cultural
and social education of our students in a way that books cannot.
The Faculty
The
faculty and
staff see themselves as educational ministers with the opportunity
to "make a difference" in their students' lives--academically, personally,
and spiritually. On the average, C-J's teachers have 11+ years of
experience and more than half (72%) of the faculty have master's degrees.
Teachers at Chaminade-Julienne are dedicated to helping students realize
the full extent of their talents, and they are well-known for their
willingness to go the extra mile to help their students achieve.
C-J has both a Principal and a President as administrative leaders
of the school. The President oversees all long-term planning, including
financial, fundraising, and public relations activities. The Principal
is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the school--making
sure that every day each student is receiving the best educational
experience possible. The President and the Principal serve on the
Administrative Team along with five other administrators. This team
meets weekly to discuss all matters of substance.
The Parents
From
participation in parent groups to contact with teachers, guidance
counselors and administrators, C-J parents are highly involved in
the education of their children. Parents enjoy the community atmosphere
of the C-J family, as evident in their dedicated and constant support
of student activities.
C-J believes that education is a partnership between parents and
our school. That is why C-J maintains on-going communication with
parents through a variety of methods such as the monthly parent
newsletter (Community Update),
Meet The Teacher Night, Parent/Teacher conferences, and parent groups.
C-J has two primary parents groups. The
Co-Educators is a parent group that meets monthly to discuss
school activities and concerns and to plan and support activities
such as the Post-Prom Party, the Mother/Daughter Brunch, and baccalaureate
Mass. The Blue and Green Club is the primary booster organiztion
that supports C-J's athletic and music programs.
